Slavery was one of them and the people who best served that age were the ones who called it as it was--which was ungodly and inhuman. America sees this now, but it took a civil rights movement to betray their age. And 50 years ago the U.S. Supreme Court betrayed the age May 17, 1954, Brown vs. Board of Education came down and put the lie to the idea that separate can ever really be equal. Amen to that. I'm not big on Catholicism, but Pope John Paul II was a man full of wisdom, compassion, and forgiveness.

There are some AMAZING quotes here! Thanks for compiling these, since I'm always on the hunt for new ones.

Not sure if you've read it or not, but I wanted to share with you a book I discovered about 5 years ago by Bruce Bawer called "Stealing Jesus." I highly recommend it. Even if you don't agree with everything Bawer says, it will definitely raise a lot of healthy questions.

Here is a link to the first chapter.

"Jesus in the song you wrote, the worlds are sticking in my throat, 'Peace on Earth.'" Is a great lyric. Do you know that song was written after terrorist bombing in Ireland close to U2's hometown? It's one of the many atrocities committied admist the Protestant/Catholic wars. In that context, read the lyrics, it's very sad...

Heaven on Earth
We need it now
I'm sick of all of this
Hanging around

Sick of the sorrow
I'm sick of the pain
I'm sick of hearing
Again and again
That there's never gonna be
Peace on Earth

Where I grew up
There weren't many trees
Where there was we'd tear them down
And use them on our enemies

They say that what you mock
Will surely overtake you
And you become a monster
So the monster will not break you

Jesus can you take the time
To throw a drowning man a line
Peace on Earth

To tell the ones who hear no sound
Whose sons are living in the ground
Peace on Earth

No who's or why's
No one cries like a mother cries
For peace on Earth

She never got to say goodbye
To see the color in his eyes
Now he's in the dirt
Peace on Earth

Jesus in the song you wrote
The words are sticking in my throat
Peace on Earth
