Where's A Good Samaritan When You Need One?

"And because lawlessness abounds, the love of many will grow cold."--Jesus, Matt 24:12

Well, Jesus was right. The hearts of many have grown cold.

Just look and see. I couldn't believe this.

I saw it this morning. Heartbreaking, isn't it?

It's just unbelievable. Not only did no one try to help this man, no one even bothered to call 911! The police man that showed up was in the area from an UNRELATED call. How could so many selfish people be gathered in the same place at the same time? Car after car drives by, people gawk on the side walk, and the cyclists just circles around him. It made my blood boil.

:( I don't know how accurate this info is but I did hear that they did receive 911 calls directly after but that's almost as sad.

Nobody wanted to get their "hands dirty". Nobody wanted to actually help with their physical bodies or their time.

It really is shocking to me that not one person actually stopped.

sigh.

It was first reported that no one called 911 and then later reports surfaced that 911 calls were placed, but it's unclear if it was a related incident. I really hope these people atleast called 911. I can't understand how no one tried to stop or direct traffic. They just left that old man vulnerable to be run over.

One more thing is in order here. This horror is nothing new. When the Japanese invaded and occupied Nanking, China in 1937, it was one of the most brutal military occupations ever. George A. Fitch who was a protestant missionary in Nanking at the time, pleaded for the U.S. or any government to stop the atrocities in China. But the world stood silent.

Thank you Tia for posting this vid, you did not stand silent.

I just find this stuff alarming! Of course this is not the first time that we've seen folks frozen at the sight of violence, seemingly unable or unwilling to help. And I often wonder what's going through the heads of those who do nothing. Are they afraid? In the shock of the moment, do they not comprehend the reality of the pain & suffering? Or are their hearts really that stone cold?

And every time we discuss these horrendous stories, so many say, "I would definitely help the best way I could." But would they? Would I?

I can't imagine a time that I would be like those who watch paralyzed. I believe that I would be the one who offers aid. On the other hand, I worry that if so many can turn their backs on one in need...what makes me different?

I pray that Jesus would give all of us wisdom and strength to always be our brothers' and sister's keeper.
